While the threat of foot and mouth disease seems to be receding we still need to be concerned about farmers and the many others financially affected by the restriction on the movement of animals - it will take them a while to recover from the losses.

Over the past few months an number of young people have been killed by guns in the UK. The frequency of these killings has shocked many people in the UK as we are not a gun carrying community. Please pray for the families and friends of these young people. To be honest many of these people have become people that we would find hard to love due to their behaviour but we can still pray for those left behind. Pray that those involved in similar crimes and friendship groups will realise the dangerous life they are in. Pray that they will have contact will some good people who can help and influence them to turn around from a path of destruction. Pray for their parents and other relatives for who this will be a terrible loss. Pray that local church leaders will become a positive role model in these communities and that churches will start / continue to work with young people. Pray for local Christian youth workers for wisdom to know what and when to say anything. Pray for local Christian Young people that they will be kept safe but that they will also have the courage to speak out in compassion about the difference that Jesus can make.

Pray for the political situation in the UK. The previous Prime Minister was under investigation for the "cash for honours' affair. Whatever your political persuasion it does not help the country that this is happening. Pray for wisdom for the new Prime Minister that he can stand for truth and that his up bringing will play a part in his decisions.

Recently scientists have been warning about global warming and possible catastrophe. Pray that churches can identify a suitable response which is does not come across as 'crackpot'.

Pray for those families of our armed forces who are waiting for a coroner's court to decide how their loved ones died.

Pray for the situation between Israel and its surrounding neighbours.

Peace is always fragile in this part of the world. Pray for wisdom, mercy and forgiveness on both sides. Pray for a willingness to find a peaceful solution to the kidnapping of the Israeli solders.

Pray for the leaders of countries that they may have wisdom, humility, courage and true faith to deal with

such issues on our behalf.

The Christian community in Iraq is finding itself caught in the crossfire of sectarian violence, forcing Christians to move north to find safety in the Kurdish-controlled region of the country.

Troops continue to be killed in Irag and Afghanistan - pray for all who have lost loved ones from all sides.

Pray for the hundreds of people on both side who have lost family and loved ones.

Pray for families as so many people are remaining single but children are still being born to singles. Any child of a single parent will find it harder - only one carer - possible low income - poorer living circumstances. Perhaps the church should reconsider the role of Sunday School. Perhaps it should be on a different day and time. Perhaps should be more fun for the kids and provide support for single parents. The original Sunday schools created a more equal society by providing much needed education to poorer people. Maybe the church need to look at this again - or are we happy with a baby sitting role so that parents can enjoy the service?
